Eco-Friendly Easter Basket Ideas

Eco-Friendly Easter Basket Ideas is and Easter Tradition shared by Kate of Ashville, NC.

Easter is a time of renewal when spring has sprung and everything is fresh. For me, eco-friendly Easter baskets are a reflection of this holiday.

Eco-Friendly Easter Basket IdeasEarth friendly Easter baskets are easy and fun to put together for the whole family. They don't leave behind a lot of plastic that just gets thrown away eventually. Plus, by making an effort to create an eco-friendly basket you conserve the earth, give a very unique Easter gift, and make the world a brighter place!

Earth Friendly Easter Basket Ideas:

Start with a natural basket made of reeds or wicker. You can get inexpensive natural baskets for the same price as plastic ones (even my local dollar store has them).

Fill the basket with paper Easter grass. It comes in a variety of colors and is bio-degradable. You can also create your own Easter grass with a paper shredder or reuse crumbled colored tissue paper that may be left over from the holidays.

Instead of plastic eggs, use the bottoms of a paper egg cartons (the type you get when buying eggs) to create paper eggs that you can fill. One carton will yield 6 eggs.

First, cut the bottom of the carton apart to make individual egg shaped paper cups. Fill the cup with candy, or whatever you like. Take a second cup to use as the top. Use hot glue or regular school glue to fasten the cups together. Cover the seam with some ribbon or a strip of colorful paper.

If you have time, you can cover the entire egg with strips of colorful tissue paper. Create a thin paste with water and school glue and layer the strips around the paper eggs. This makes a really pretty egg. Decorating paper eggs is one of the most fun eco-friendly Easter crafts for kids, so make a day of it!

Other great ideas for Earth friendly Easter baskets include things that can be used up such as flower seeds, homemade Easter treats, movie tickets or gift cards. And, consider toys made of paper, wood, or natural fibers so that when they are discarded, they will have the least impact on the environment.

If you're passionate about recycling and reusing I think you'll find these Easter ideas to be a great fun! Happy Easter!
